Cloth wipes, not just another washcloth
Many parents who use cloth diapers use cloth wipes as well. I’ve had several people ask me, “why not just use washcloths?”. Well you could do that, but why would you want to use boring old washcloths when you can use something much better?
Most cloth wipes are made with materials other than what a typical washcloth is made from; terrycloth. Some are made with organic cotton, bamboo, cotton flannel and many other combinations. Cloth wipes can be made in all kinds of sizes, though typical size is 8” x 8”. They can be made with one material or two, as many cloth wipes are two pieces of material to help with the messiest of bottoms.
You don’t just have to have boring old white or solid colors either. Many cloth wipes come in a variety of fun patterns, especially those made by WAHM (work at home moms). Some green parents get sets with different patterns on them so they can keep straight with ones are used for faces and which for bottoms.
At Crackerjack’s we have mostly plain cloth wipes, but some are the softest material I’ve felt in a long time, like the Thirsties Fab Wipes. We also have unbleached cotton terry wipes by Kissaluvs. For those that want another option we have 100% cotton wipes by GroVia.
If you are looking for hand made wipes in fun patterns you should look on Hyena Cart or Diaper Swappers. Those two sites promote WAHM’s and you can get some great deals on super cute wipes.
Biodegradable liners- what are they for?
Many cloth diapering parents ask, “Do I need the diaper liners and what are they for anyway?” That is a good question that needs answering. Cloth diaper liners are good for many things and most are biodegradable, although there are some that are washable too.
Here at Crackerjack’s we carry the Kushies biodegradable, flushable diaper liners. These are convenient, as they can be flushed or composted making them an ideal way to protect your cloth diapers. And that is the main purpose of any diaper liner, to protect the cloth diaper surface.
Diaper liners are used for when you have to use diaper rash creams on your child’s bottom. It creates a barrier between the cream and the diaper surface. Many diaper rash creams will leave behind a residue that often will stain the cloth diaper. If you want to avoid stains that will never come out, then you use a diaper liner.
Diaper liners are also nice to use if your child is past the breastfed stage and has solid bowel movements. Then when you need to change the diaper and there is solid matter you can just peel the liner out and either flush it or throw it out. This helps keep the poo from staining the diaper surface and makes clean up easier, especially if you don’t have a diaper sprayer.
Most biodegradable liners are really cost effective even if you use them with every diaper. However, many parents only use liners when they have to use rash creams. Poo stains will wash out eventually, but rash cream stains last forever! I suggest that parents get at least one roll to keep on hand for those times when they really need them.

Nighttime bed wetting solution
Many times a child will be potty trained during the day, but not at night. It isn’t uncommon for a child to wet the bed for a while after being daytime potty trained, sometimes even into school years. Some parents who have children with disabilities have to deal with nighttime bed-wetting for years and years.
There is a fun solution to having to get up in the middle of the night and change a wet child and bed. Meet Happy Heinys Training pants; a waterproof training pant that comes in cool colors and prints. Happy Heinys training pants are truly waterproof without being heavy, hot and uncomfortable. The PUL layer that makes them waterproof is lightweight and flexible.
The Happy Heinys training pants come with 1 micro fiber insert, but you can add absorbency as needed since these come with a pocket for stuffing. The pocket allows you to change the amount of absorbency you need without a lot of hassle. The snaps on both sides of the trainer make for easier stuffing and if there is a solid accident, easier removal without dragging it all the way down your child’s legs.
Happy Heinys trainers come in various sizes; from XS to XXL. The XS fits very young children weighing about 15-24lbs. and the XXL fits up to 65lbs. The sizes are generous, but the leg openings tend to be tight after a few washings. We advise that you line dry your trainers to keep them fitting snug, but comfortable.
The inside of these trainers is made with custom milled micro fleece, so they are super soft against that sensitive skin. They breathe, so they don’t feel hot even on those warm summer nights. And all the elastic is covered with a stretchy binding so that they don’t leave red marks.
The array of colors and patterns make them fun for you child to wear. Making the colors bright and patterns fun helps your child want to wear these and keep the sheets dry. The Happy Heinys trainers are easy to pull up and down, so the help foster independence.
Once you try these wonderful trainers; you won’t want anything else for your child. You can find happy Heinys trainers at Crackerjack’s Underpants.
Feature Product 7-19-10
Today Crackerjack’s Underpants is featuring a cloth diaper cover that is outstanding in its durability and function. This diaper cover will hold up to hundreds of washings and diaper changes. With its super leg gussets and back elastic; it can hold in even the runniest of newborn poos and avoids the “blowout”.
The feature product today is the Thirsties Duo Wrap. This cover made here in the USA by Thirsties is an improvement on the Thirsties v2 covers that have been popular for years. The Duo Wrap is an adjustable cover that instead of being just one size fits all, it has two sizes to fit most babies from birth to potty training. The size 1 Duo Wrap fits babies 6-18lbs. and the size 2 Duo Wrap fits infants and toddlers from 18- 40lbs.!
The Thirsties Duo Wrap has comfy casings around all the elastic so that it doesn’t leave “red marks” on your baby’s legs or back. Yet this elastic is so strong that it contains everything! This cover is roomy too, making it a perfect cover for even the most fluffy of cloth diapers.
The Duo Wrap adjusts the rise with snaps on the front and the leg openings adjust with a wrap over style aplix (Velcro). This is a very adjustable cloth diaper cover! I have seen it on newborns and toddlers and it always seems to fit just right.
The Duo Wrap comes in 7 bold colors, white and 4 prints. It also recently came out in a snap closure too! You can find those here. To find the original aplix closure, look here.
So if you want a cost effective, durable, bulletproof cloth diaper cover, you need the Thirsties Duo Wrap. You can find these and other cloth diaper covers at Crackerjack’s Underpants.

What if I don’t like One-size cloth diapers?
In today’s economy people are looking for the cheapest way to do everything. Who can blame them? Everyone has been hit hard by this recession and it looks like it is going to get worse before it gets better. But, just because something is cheaper and newer, doesn’t mean it is better.
The one-size cloth diaper has revolutionized the cloth-diapering world. However, as with anything that says it is “one size”, it really doesn’t fit every body style well. Nearly all the one-size cloth diapers say that they fit a baby from 7-35lbs. That is quit a difference when your talking the average sized newborn to a toddler!
You can imagine that a diaper that will fit a toddler is going to be rather bulky on a newborn. That is the case with most one-size diapers; they don’t fit well until the baby is around 12-15lbs. The other end of the scale gets questionable also. Depending on your child’s build the one size diapers may not fit until they potty train.
That is why some cloth diapering parents are going back to the “sized” diaper. When I cloth diapered my daughter, there weren’t all these one-sized diapers available yet. We used pocket diapers in different sizes. It was more expensive than the one-sized diapers are today, but they fit her better at each stage.
At Crackerjack’s Underpants we carry two main brands of pocket diapers. I used mostly Happy Heinys pocket diapers on my daughter because I liked the prints and Velcro closures. However, I did have a few FuzziBunz pocket diapers and they came in handy when she got a little older and could diaper strip!
Happy Hienys pocket diapers come in a variety of colors, 6 sizes (X-small – XX-Large) and have aplix (Velcro) closures. They are easy to stuff the absorbent inserts into and super easy to put on your kiddo. These pocket diapers wash well and hold up to years of use. Any color or size we do not have in stock can be ordered and drop shipped right to your door.
FuzziBunz perfect fit pocket diapers come in several wonderful colors, 4 sizes (X-Small- Large) and have a snap closure. They stuff easily, wash well and hold up really well to years and years of abuse. The snap closure holds up better over time than the Velcro, but take some getting used to at diaper changes. It is more difficult for toddlers to take their own diaper off with the snap closure of FuzziBunz too! We have limited old colors in stock now and hope to get the new colors in soon!
So if you are looking for a better fit than a one-size diaper can give you, try a sized pocket diaper. We have 2 different brands to choose from at Crackerjack’s Underpants. Sometimes a little extra money spent can be worth the hassles of a cheaper option!
